September 24, 2020 – CyberDefenses, a managed security services provider, announced today that Senior Cybersecurity Analyst, David Gray, is among the first candidates selected by the Department of Defense (DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Accreditation Body (AB) to be a Provisional Assessor. Gray is one of 25 candidates to form the first pool of Provisional Assessors out of an initial group of more than 500 program applicants.
The significant designation means that CyberDefenses, a CMMC Registered Provider Organization (RPO), can begin approved CMMC consulting and CMMC Maturity Level One Assessesments immediately. Subject to an external CMMC Maturity Level Three Assessment by the DoD Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity Assessment Center (DIBCAC), CyberDefenses can conduct Maturity Level Two and Maturity Level Three CMMC assessments. The assessments evaluate Defense Industrial Base (DIB) organizations that serve the DoD against a defined set of controls and best practices within the CMMC Program.
CMMC is a unified cybersecurity standard for future DoD acquisitions developed to secure the United States’ defense supply chain (DSC).
“Dave’s accomplishment represents an achievement for all of CyberDefenses,” Armando Ordonez, CyberDefenses’ CEO says. “It is an honor to have a member of our team serving in a capacity that will help shape this vitally important program.”
Seventy-two Provisional Assessor candidates were randomly selected based on pre-requisites, domain expertise, and industry experience. Approximately half of the 72 candidates are affiliated with a company registered to become a CMMC Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO). The other half will establish themselves as Independent Assessors, allowing flexibility to contract through multiple C3PAOs.
These first Assessors are expected to provide valuable assessment process feedback to the CMMC-AB, CMMC pilots, the DoD, and pathfinders, the first group of companies to go through the certification process.
